4th class were the best attenders in our school this month. Each month we recognise the class with the best attendance. 4th class made an excellent effort this month. Well done.

There has been a huge amount going on in our school throughout the months of November and December. We have had our monthy attendance awards with our Gaeilgoir na Míosa awards taking place also. We had a visit from Irish international hockey player Roísín Upton who is set to be an olympian at the next Olympic games in Tokyo. She spoke to the children about the benefits of sport and also about women in sport. The school presented her with a hamper. We also performed our Christmas show which was a huge success.

There has been a lot happening in our school since we returned in September. Here is a small selection of some of the activities the children have been involved in.

The children have competed and won medals in cross country. They represented the school in a cross country competition and performed really well. They have also taken part in GAA blitzes at the local GAA club. The girls are currently involved in a six week Rugby programme with the IRFU and are enjoying this and learning lots.

6th class are working on a VEX Robotics competition which involves designing and building a robot that will compete against others robots in February. They will also have to be able to drive this robot and programme it to move automatically. They will be fundraising to help fund the competition. This is a huge STEM learning opportunity for the children and every child is taking part in different ways. Some children are building, some are programming and some are running the fund raising. There will be more opportunities for the children to get involved in different ways in the near future.

This is just a small selection of some of the exciting things going on in our school at the moment. Click below to see some photos of these events.

Here in our Lady of Lourdes we are taking part in the One Good Idea competition to raise awareness about energy usage in our school. We have been running a competition in our school to save energy and the best class will get a prize. We are checking to see that they are switching off lights, projectors and computers. We are also checking that they are using their blinds correctly and that their thermostats are set to an efficient temperature. It has been great fun and we will announce the winner of the competition here soon.
