At Our Lady of Lourdes we work with lots of different partners to deliver our programme of physical education to pupils.

Our list of current partners:

  • Limerick Sports Partnership
  • FAI
  • TUS Basketball
  • Marathon Kids
  • Limerick City Sports Athletics
  • Crescent Comprehensive Rugby
  • Bawnmore Swimming
  • Cumann na mBunscoil

We encourage our students at Our Lady of Lourdes to get involved in activities outside of school. Involvement in a local club is most likely to encourage lifelong participation in a sport or activity. Basketball, table tennis, swimming, GAA, Creative Dance and Athletics are amongst the options locally and our students get a taste for these activities in their PE lessons. This variety of activities allows each child to find something active that suits them and their personal interests.

What Club are you in?

The pupils on our Active School Team carried out a "What Club are you in?" survey in all classes in the school. Soccer came out as the most popular sport in our school. The boys have also created a list of the names of sporting organisations in our area to give to all parents. We were delighted to see one boy has joined the local Huskies Basketball team because he enjoyed the coaching sessions so much in school.

To promote physical activity in the school, we have introduced a number of initiatives to ensure our pupils are encouraged to be as active as possible. Some of the initiatives we have introduced include

  • Playground leaders
  • Active School Walkway
  • Extended classroom-based physical activity breaks on wet play days
  • Marathon kids running challenge
  • Run around Ireland running challenge
  • School Sports day

Our Lady of Lourdes is active and fun. We spend our days learning to read, write and run. Being kind is what we are about, making sure no one is ever left out.
